Artists of Color Juried Exhibit


ALNB’s First Annual Juried Exhibit exclusively for artists of color!

Artists of color throughout the state of Connecticut are encouraged submit up to three works of art for ALNB’s first ever Artists of Color Juried Exhibit!

  • Opening Reception: Sunday, July 7th, 1:30-4pm

    Closing Reception: Sunday, July 28th 1:30-4pm.

    Gallery Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, 1:30 - 4pm

  • Up to three pieces may be submitted for consideration:

    Non-ALNB Members - 1st entry $25, additional entries $15

    ALNB Members - 1st entry $15, additional entries $5

    Juried for entry and prizes. Registration does not guarantee your piece will be accepted.

  • 1st prize: $300

    2nd Prize: $200

    3rd Prize: $100

    Crowd Favorite: $50

  • We welcome original artworks (no giclee or reproductions) in the following mediums:

    • Paintings • Drawings • Prints-making

    • Photography • Mixed media • 3D Art

    *No AI artwork or work that utilizes AI in any form will be accepted*

    2D Artwork must be properly framed or with painted edges (museum wrapped). All wall-mounted art must be wired for hanging. NO saw tooth hangers. Artwork that does not adhere to these standards will not be accepted.

    Size Criteria:

    2D Artwork – no larger than 42” x 42” (including frame); no more than 35lbs

    3D Artwork – no larger than 3’ x 3’ and 7’ in height (Pedestal limitations – 14” x 24”)

    Wall relief – up to 6” depth

    Sales: 70% to artists, 30% to ALNB

  • Accepted artists are encouraged to “gallery sit.” Two artists max per day. Volunteers are eligible for an “Artist Spotlight” promotion. The ALNB will promote your selected timeslot as an opportunity for guests to “meet the artist.”

    Sat & Sun, 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM

  • By entering this exhibit, the artist acknowledges that they will show at their own risk. Artwork will be handled with all possible care, but the ALNB is not responsible for loss or damage to any Artwork. Artwork not picked up two weeks after the closing reception will be forfeit as property of the ALNB.

  • All registrants will be required to drop off their pieces to be juried at the ALNB.

    Drop Off Dates:

    June 20th: 4PM - 6PM

    June 21st, 24th: 6PM - 8PM

    June 22nd & 23rd: 2PM - 4PM

    June 25th: 6PM - 8PM

    June 26th: 10AM - 12PM

    June 27th: 5PM - 7PM

    Unselected works must be picked up July 1st from Noon to 1 PM and 5 to 6PM

All artists interested in submitting for this exhibit MUST pre-register their work before the closing of the last day of drop off, June 27th at 7PM. No pieces will be accepted after this time.

Featuring Guest Juror, Andre Rochester

Andre Rochester is a Fine Artist from the Greater Hartford region of Connecticut. He studied illustration at the University of Connecticut School of Fine Arts and completed his BA in Studio Art at Charter Oak State College. He also earned an MS in Organizational Leadership from Quinnipiac University.

Andre is an inaugural Artist of Color Accelerate Fellow, partnered with The Amistad Center at Wadsworth Atheneum, Leadership Greater Hartford- 2021 Quest Program Alum, Greater Hartford Arts Council 2022 New Voices Fellow, and 2022-23 National Leaders of Color Fellow- representing CT for the New England Foundation for The Arts.

Andre is a board member at Hartford Art School Endowment, Inc., Wethersfield Academy for the Arts, and the Connecticut Arts Alliance as well as a member Wadsworth Atheneum Community Council. He is currently the Program Manager at The 224 EcoSpace in Hartford, where he curates exhibits and oversees execution of arts events and programs, including the Artists of Color Accelerate Fellowship. He is also the Art Curator at UConn Health, in charge of a collection of over 2500 works of art across multiple facilities.
